We Celebrate Our 20th Year
Our Food Distribution program is approaching its 20th year of service. The program that began providing food to 35 families in 2007 has more than quadrupled in size. This ministry is now serving over 140 families with regular food distribution every third Thursday of the month. In this uncertain economy, families are faced with the challenge of providing the basic needs of their families more than ever before. Gasoline prices have increased since last year, leaving low income families, and even middle income families, unable to meet basic living expenses. More expensive energy translates into higher consumer food prices, as the costs of manufacturing and transporting goods rise. If Redeemer Bible Church can relieve some of these struggles, we are truly fulfilling our duty to help those in need.
“Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
James 2:15–17
Embracing Our Lord
When a person’s physical hunger is satisfied, his spirit is free to embrace our Lord. There is a real need in this neighborhood; many families have just a single parent supporting their family. It is our spiritual duty to serve those in need. Our Food Distribution is every other Thursday. The boxes contain canned goods, rice, pasta, cereal, peanut butter, bread, jelly, fresh fruits and vegetables, sometimes vitamins and toiletry items, and usually a small treat of candy or a baked good. This ministry is very labor intensive; each box is lovingly assembled by several from our Hispanic congregation for each distribution. Fresh produce, breads, and dairy products are picked up the morning of the distribution.
The challenge of starvation is not limited to a particular ethnic group, but is widespread among the low income and lower middle income group. Some of the recipients of the food boxes have begun to attend our regular worship services and home groups, as well as sending their children to our Awana program.
Volunteers Needed!
Volunteers are needed to help assemble the boxes and distribute them. Please contact the church office or Pastor Rolman if you would like to help.
